CreateBetterWriters.com is run by David S. Dye, doing business as Model Citizen Publications. This page explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it.

Short version: I sell writing and grammar curriculum to teachers. I collect what I need to take your order and send you what you bought. I do not sell your information to anybody, and I never will.

What I collect, and why

When you buy something. Your name, email address, billing address, and shipping address if you ordered a printed book. If you are ordering for a school, that includes your school name and purchase order number. I need this to fill the order and to keep the records the IRS requires.

Your payment details never reach me. Card payments are handled by Wix Payments, and PayPal handles PayPal. Neither one gives me your card number. I see that a payment succeeded, and the last four digits.

When you join the newsletter. Your email address, and your first name if you give it. That is all I use it for. Every issue has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.

When you download a free sample. Your email address, which is what the download is gated behind. The same unsubscribe applies.

When you use the contact form. Whatever you type into it, so I can reply.

Automatically, when you visit. Standard web traffic data — the pages you looked at, how you arrived, your general location from your IP address, and what browser and device you used. This comes from Wix, which hosts the site, and from Google Analytics. I use it to see which pages are working and which are not. I do not use it to identify you individually.

Advertising measurement. I run ads on Google. If you arrive from one of those ads and later buy something or sign up for a sample, Google's conversion tracking tells me that the ad worked. It reports the sale to me as a number, not as your name. Google may also use these cookies to show you CreateBetterWriters ads on other sites. You can turn that off in your own Google ad settings at myadcenter.google.com, and declining advertising cookies on this site stops the tracking here.

Cookies

The site uses cookies for four things: keeping your shopping cart working, remembering your preferences, measuring traffic, and measuring whether an ad led to a purchase. When you first arrive you are asked which categories you accept. The cart cookies are required for the store to function; the analytics and advertising cookies are not, and declining them does not change anything you can do on the site.

You can also clear or block cookies in your browser. If you block the essential ones, the cart will stop working.

Who else sees your information

Only the companies that make the site run, and only the part they need:

• Wix — hosts the site, the store and the newsletter

• Wix Payments and PayPal — process payments

• Google Analytics — measures traffic

• Google Ads — measures which ads lead to sales, and shows ads for this site elsewhere

• Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) and USPS — print and deliver printed books

I do not sell, rent, or trade your information. I do not share it for anyone else's advertising. The only other case where I would hand it over is if the law required it.

How long I keep it

Order records I keep for seven years, because tax law requires it. Newsletter subscriptions I keep until you unsubscribe. Contact form messages I keep while the conversation is useful and then delete them.

What you can ask me to do

Email contact@createbetterwriters.com and I will:

• tell you what information I hold about you

• correct anything that is wrong

• delete you from the newsletter and any marketing list

• delete your other information, except records I am legally required to keep

I will answer within 30 days. There is no charge, and you do not have to give a reason.

If you are in California, you have these rights under state law, and I will not treat you differently for using them. I do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA.

If you are outside the United States, including in the UK or the EU, the same requests are honored. Note that the site and its data are hosted in the United States.

Children

This site is for teachers, parents and school administrators. It is not directed to children under 13 and I do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given me information, email me and I will delete it.

Security

The site runs over HTTPS. Payments are handled by processors that carry their own security certifications. No website can promise perfect security, and I am not going to pretend otherwise — but I hold very little about you, which is the best protection there is.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be noted on the page.
